Patient attendants to get hospital IDs

Patient attendants will get identity cards at hospitals from now on, the health ministry decided at a meeting today in the footsteps of a major agitation involving assault on a patient attendant.

Also, doctors, nurses and employees will also have to be issued ID cards from hospitals that will be mandated for use while on duty, according to a press statement of the ministry.

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, who chaired the meeting of the health ministry, asked the hospital directors to implement the decision at the earliest.

The decisions came after a three-day strike of the intern doctors in various medical college hospitals across the country, which left patients at bay for the mentioned period.

The strike was enforced after the health minister suspended four interns for assaulting a patient attendant at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital on February 19.

After much suffering, the health minister withdrew suspension of the interns which was met with the withdrawal of the strike.
