Analysing HSC results of eight years from 2011, it was found that the pass rate of Government Sohrawardy College remained below 60 percent except in 2011, 2014 and 2015, while the percentage of Government Girls' College was over 90 percent for five years and over 80 percent for three years, according to a website (www.eboardresults.com).
The number of GPA-5 is also very poor of Government Sohrawardy College. The number of GPA-5 was below ten in the last eight years except in 2012, 2013 and 2014. This year only three students have scored GPA-5 from the college and 436 students passed out of 739.
On the other hand, the number of GPA-5 of Government Girls' College was over 20 except in 2017 and 2018. This year 533 students passed out of 614 students.
Contacted, Md Delwar Hossain, principal of Government Sohrawardy College, said after passing in the SSC examinations, a number of meritorious students get admission in Dhaka.
That is the main reason why fewer students pass in the HSC examinations from their college, he said, adding that most students do not attend classes regularly.
They are taking stricter steps to ensure regular attendance of new students.
