Owner burnt to death in his tea stall

A man was burnt to death inside his tea stall in Mathbaria upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased was Alam Hawlader, 55, son of late Atahar Ali Hawlader of Bashbuniya village.

Locals said that after closing his stall, Alam went to sleep inside his tea stall at Musullibari bus stop in the upazila on Monday night.

At midnight, his shop caught fire. On information, locals rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Alam could not come out and was burnt to death.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained, said Mostofa Kamal, officer of Mathbaria fire station.

However, local people suspect that the fire originated from a burning cigarette.
