Youth gets life term for rape
A Faridpur court on Saturday sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment in connection with a case for raping a schoolgirl in Bhanga upazila in 2017.
The convict, Pius Mia, 21, is a resident of Fukhurhati village in the upazila.
Faridpur Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Alamgir Kabir also fined him Tk 50,000, Public Prosecutor Swapan Kumar Paul said.
Accordion to the case statement, the victim, then a Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinee, was returning from her couching centre at Ucha Bazar area around 6:00pm on September 23, 2017.
On her way back home, Pius waylaid her and dragged her to a roadside field and forcibly raped her there.
Hearing her scream, local people rushed to the spot and rescued the victim, but the culprit managed to flee the spot.
The following day, victim's mother filed a rape case with Bhanga Police Station accusing Pius.
After investigation, Sub Inspector of Bhanga Police Station Abdulah Azad, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the court on November 26 the same year.
