Yaba worth Tk 5.40 crore seized in Cox’s Bazar
The Detective Branch of Police (DB) seized around 1.80 lakh yaba tablets worth around Tk 5.40 crore and arrested three alleged drug peddlers from Bandarban's Naikhanchhari and Cox's Bazar's Ramu upazilas early today.
The arrestees are Abdur Rashid, 26, of Alikadamupazila, Mahmuda Begum, 41, of Naikhanchhari upazila of Bandarban and Anamul Hasan, 21, a refugee youth living at Lambarshia camp in Kutupalong, our local staff correspondent reports quoting Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB in Cox's Bazar.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the DB police carried out a raid at a village under Kawarkhup union of Ramu upazila around 1:00am and detained Rohingya youth Anamul Hasan with yaba tablets, the DB OC said.
Following his confessional statement, the DB team also carried out a raid in Naikhanchhari area and detained Abdur Rashid and Mahmuda Begumfor their link with drug racketing in the area.
Around 1.80 lakh yaba tablets worth Tk 5.40 crore were seized from the three arrestees and a case was lodged with Ramu Police Station against them in this connection, the DB OC said.
