Woman dies with fever in Shariatpur, 7 people placed in home quarantine
Family members of a woman today left with her body from a hospital in Shariatpur after she died today morning, reports our Jagannath University correspondent quoting officials.
The 25-year-old woman, hailing from Raipur village under the Sadar upazila, died around 10:30am at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, about an hour after she was admitted with fever and headache, said Dr Munir Ahmed Khan, superintendent of the hospital.
"We took preparation to collect her sample for coronavirus testing. But, around one hour later, the emergency department physician confirmed that the body was no longer in the hospital," he said.
The incident was immediately reported to senior authorities, Munir added.
"Soon after the death, I issued a death certificate of the woman and gave it to the nurse of the concerned ward in the hospital," Dr Ranesh Bose -- the in-charge of the emergency department at the time of the woman's death -- told The Daily Star.
"In my absence, the relatives of the woman took the death certificate from that nurse and left with the body, which was kept for collection of sample," he claimed.
"As per the instruction of the district's deputy commissioner, the Sadar upazila health and family planning officer and I went to the woman's house and collected the samples from her body for coronavirus test," said Md Mahabur Rahman Sheikh, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Shariatpur Sadar upazila.
Seven people of four families who were in contact with the woman have been placed under home quarantine, the UNO also said.
The body was later buried by the Islamic Foundation according to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO) in this regard, he added.
