Weeklong protima mela concludes in Tangail
A weeklong protima mela (idol fair) at Boro Kalibari in the town concluded yesterday.
The fair was organised on the occasion of Swaraswati Puja of the Hindu community.
Many idol makers from different areas came to the venue with their idols while a number of buyers were seen purchasing the idols according to their choice.
A small sized idol was selling for Tk 300 to Tk 500, while a middle sized at Tk 1,000 to Tk 2,000 and the large for Tk 3,000 to Tk 8,000 apiece.
Ajit Paul, an idol maker of Kalibari area, said he has already sold most of his idols at the fair and expecting to sell the rest at the last moment.
Another idol maker Ranjit Paul of Karatia area in Sadar upazila said, he had brought 22 idols at the fair and already sold 18 of those at Tk 3,000 apiece.
General Secretary of Hindu Mohajot, Tangail district unit, Alok Das said due to a special reason Swaraswati Puja will celebrated on two consecutive days this year.
