‘We will allow state honour if action taken’
State of honour to deceased freedom fighter (FF) Ismail Hossain can be received if action is taken against the district administration officials responsible for rejection of state honour by the nation’s heroic son, said family members.
Talking this journalists at their house at Jugibari village in Dinajpur Sadar yesterday, family members also demanded withdrawal of the officials of Dinajpur district administration, who disrespected the freedom fighter, within 24 hours.
“If the persons responsible for my father’s refusal to take state honour are punished through forming a high powered committee, we will allow paying the honour to him,” said Nuruzzaman, elder son of Ismail.
Fair investigation is not possible with the bodies formed by Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Rangpur Divisional Commissioner, he said.
Ismail’s another son Nur Islam, who lost his daily pay basis driver’s job at AC (Land) office in Dinajpur Sadar upazila on October 9, said he rejected the Dinajpur DC’s offer for reinstating him to the job when the official met the deceased FF’s family members on Friday.
Ariful Islam, AC (Land) of Dinajpur Sadar, said, “I took away the key of my vehicle from Nur Islam as he is a drunkard and driving by him was not safe.”
Nur Islam said it was a false claim.
Sohodeb Chandra Roy, a freedom fighter of Dinajpur, urged the government to form a high powered probe body to find out why Ismail Hossain rejected the state honour.
Ismail, who breathed his last at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur on October 23, said in a letter on his deathbed, “After my death I do not want the salute of the AC Land, UNO, ADC and DC, who made my son Nur Islam jobless.”
Talking with The Daily Star, Dinajpur-3 lawmaker Iqbalur Rahim, also Whip of Jatiya Sangsad, said, “Nur Islam got job at the AC Land office following my recommendation, but the district administration fired him without consulting me. The DC even did not consult me after he learnt about the rejection of state honour by freedom fighter Ismail Hossain.”
