UPDF member shot dead in Khagrachhari

A member of United People Democratic Front (UPDF) was reportedly shot dead in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari this morning.

Police confirmed the death of one person in a gunfight -- between UPDF members and a rival group -- at Dewanpara village under Sadar union around 9am.

Police could not confirm the identity of the deceased, our Khagrachhari correspondent reports quoting Shamsuddin Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Matiranga Police Station.

Locals claimed the deceased was Arjun Chakma (38), a member of UPDF, a regional political party of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs). 

The gunfight happened over establishing supremacy in the area, said the OC.

Operation is on in the area, he said.

They recovered one firearm and some bullet shells from the spot, Shamsuddin said.
