UPDF member killed in Rangamati ‘gunfight’
A member of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-main) has been killed in a reported gunfight with an army patrol team in Rangamati.
The deceased was identified as Sumon Chakma, one of the prime accused in the murder of Naniarchar upazila chairman Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, said a press release issued by Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) today.
Acting on a tip-off, an army team from the district’s Bagaihat zone conducted a drive in Dopata area to arrest terrorists today.
Sensing presence of the army patrol team, the criminals opened fire, forcing the army men to fire back triggering a gunfight between them, said the release.
The UPDF’s top member Sumon Chakma died during the gunfight, it added.
The other criminals managed to flee the scene but many of them might be injured during the incident, it said.
