Two years on, approach roads still to be built
A bridge has been lying idle for two years due to lack of any approach roads in Madhupur upazila of the district.
In 2016, Madhupur Project Implementation Office constructed the 40-foot-long bridge on a canal at Mohishmara Dakkhinpara village spending Tk 33 lakh for making a road communication from Lalmati area to Garobazar area, said Razib Al Rana, project implementation officer.
However, the bridge remained useless after two years of completion due to lack of approach roads on both the ends, he said.
As a result, people of several villages including Rasulpur, Mominpur, Garobazar, Lalmati, Goranchala and Mohishmara are facing huge sufferings, locals said.
Expressing frustration, Abdul Gani Miah of Mohishmara village said he donated his land for the bridge for the development of local people but his hope has been shattered as the approach roads have not been built.
He demanded construction of the approach roads to the bridge as soon as possible.
Kazi Abdul Motaleb, chairman of Mohishmara Union Parishad, said he has talked to the authorities concerned for construction of the approach roads to the bridge.
Project Implementation Officer Razib Al Rana said steps have already taken to build the approach roads to the bridge.
