Two jailed for raping woman, girl student
Two men were jailed for raping a woman and a teenage girl in Chapainawabganj and Jashore yesterday.
A Chapainawabganj court sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a woman, reports our correspondent.
The lifer is Abu Sayam alias Shamim, 35, son of Habibur Rahman of Shibnagar village in Shibganj upazila.
Judge Shawkat Ali of Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 also fined him Tk one lakh, in default, he is to suffer another one year in jail.
According to the prosecution, Shamim raped the 25-year-old woman of Stationpara in Rohonpur municipality area under Gomostapur upazila, alluring her with a promise of marriage on April 10 in 2013. He was later arrested.
The victim then filed a rape case with Gomostapur Police Station against Shamim.
Sub-Inspector Mamunur Rashid of the police station pressed charge sheet against Shamim on June 10 the same year.
After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found Shamim guilty and pronounced the verdict.
In Jashore, a mobile court sentenced a teacher to one year’s imprisonment for violating a female student of a mosque-based mass education centre at Sannasgachha village in Keshabpur upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent.
The convict is Abdus Sattar sheikh, a resident of the village, and a teacher of the centre.
The upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), who led the court, said Sattar raped the 13-year-old girl when she was alone in the classroom.
