Two accused on 4-day remand
Two siblings, arrested in connection with a case filed for raping a Pakistani national after abduction in Gopalpur upazila on April 16, were put on a four-day remand yesterday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate in Tangail Rupon Kumar Das granted the four-day remand for the duo after Gopalpur police produced them before the court around 4:00pm with a prayer for seven days’ remand for each, Court Inspector Anwarul Islam said.
The same court also rejected the bail prayer of Anwara Begum, another accused in the case and mother of the two accused, and sent her to jail, he said.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-12) arrested prime accused Al-Amin, 20, from Panchanagar village in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday and handed him over to Gopalpur police, Commanding Officer of Rab-12 Lt Col Abdullah Al Momen said.
Meanwhile, police detained Al-Amin’s elder brother Mohammad Sumon, 35, from Tangail town the same day, Officer in Charge of Gopalpur Police Station Hasan Al-Mamun said.
Quoting the victim’s mother, OC Momen said father of the 17-year-old girl migrated to Pakistan around 25 years ago and married a Pakistani woman there.
The victim, a ninth grader, along with her mother came to her paternal grandfather’s house in Tangail from Karachi in Pakistan about five months ago and were staying at one of her uncle’s house in Gopalpur upazila, he added.
Prime accused Al-Amin, son of her another uncle, had been stalking her since they came to visit the country.
On the night of April 16, Al-Amin along with some of his cohorts abducted the girl from the house, took her to an unknown place and raped her there, said the OC.
Following a case filed by the victim’s mother with Gopalpur Police Station on April 17 accusing Al-Amin and his parents, police detained Anwara Begum the same night.
Later, according to her confession law enforcers rescued the girl on April 18.
