Three schoolboys arrested
Three schoolboys were arrested on Wednesday in connection with a case for killing a trader in Madhupur upazila on April 15.
Of the arrestees, two, aged between 16 and 17, are Class X students at a local high school, while another, aged around 14, reads in Class VIII at another school, and they hailed from Satibari, Alipur and Ashura villages in the upazila.
According to the case statement, unidentified criminals killed Abdul Jalil, 58, a seasonal crops trader of Alipur village, by slitting his throat in Ashura area while he was returning home on the night of April 15.
Police started their investigation after victim’s family members filed a murder case with Madhupur Police Station the following day.
During investigation, the law enforcers recovered a knife, used in the killing, from a pond adjacent to the murder spot.
Later, after interrogating the blacksmiths at different villages, police came to know about the three schoolboys and their involvement in the murder, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Madhupur Circle) Kamran Hossain said, adding that they arrested the trio from their respective villages on Wednesday afternoon.
During primary quizzing, the arrestees told the police that they planed to rob Jalil when they learned that the trader often carries huge among of money with him, he said, adding that the trio stabbed Jalil with a knife and snatched Tk 5 lakh from him while he was returning home on April 15.
Meanwhile, two of the arrestees confessed their involvement in the murder after police produced them before a Tangail court yesterday.
Later, according to their confessional statement, police detained one Ashraful Islam, 20, from Alipur village the same evening.
