Three drown in districts across country
Three people, including a bank official, died in separate drowning incidents in Thakurgaon, Kishoreganj and Dinajpur yesterday and on Friday.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent reported that: fire-fighters recovered the body of a schoolboy from a pond in Thakurgaon upazila parishad premises yesterday.
The victim, Sajjad Hossain, 14, son of Mohammad Dulal of Nishchintapur area, was a Class VIII student at Ideal High School in Thakurgaon municipality.
Mofidar Rahman, station officer at Thakurgaon fire station, the boy drowned while taking bath along with a group of some schoolboys yesterday noon.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds: a bank official drowned in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj upazila on Friday noon.
The victim, Zahid Hasan Jiku, 28, son of Yasin Mia of Bhawal Kumarjani village in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail, was a junior officer at Bank Asia’s Phulbaria branch in Mymensingh, Officer in Charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station Mominur Rahman said.
Jiku along with his three friends came to Balikhala Ghat in Karimganj on Friday noon to spend their holiday and went to a nearby waterbody for taking bath, the OC said.
At one stage, he slipped into deep water and drowned as he did not knew how to swim, he said, adding that, being informed, they went to the spot and recovered the body with the help locals around 3:00pm.
Away in Dinajpur, villagers yesterday recovered the body of an 11-year-old boy from the Kakra river in Chirirbandar upazila, a day after he went missing on Friday.
The deceased Moniruzzaman, son of Belal Hossain of Dangapara village in the upazila, was a Class III student at a local Madrasa, OC of Chirirbandar Police Station Harisul Islam said.
Deceased’s family members said the boy slipped into water while taking bath in the Kakra river around 11:00am on Friday and remained missing.
Locals spotted the body floating in the river around yesterday morning and recovered it.
