Thief suspect killed in mob beating

A suspected thief was beaten to death by villagers at Harashpur village in Bijoynagar upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was Shahidul Islam, 45, son of late Tajul Islam of Bhubhan village in Nasirnagar upazila.

Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Jalal Uddin, acting in-charge of Awlia Bazar Investigation Centre, said villagers caught Shahidul red-handed while he was committing theft in Harashpur Borochal Primary School after breaking the lock.

On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued Shahidul and took him to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

The SI said police will investigate if there is any case filed against Shahidul with the police station, and necessary action will be taken on the basis of the finding.
