Temples vandalised
Criminals vandalised temples of Shiv and Radha-Govinda and a statue in historical Sindurmati Pond area at Sindurmati village of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila early yesterday.
They also threw cow dung at the temples, said President of Sindurmati Temple Managing Committee Atul Chandra Roy.
Devotees came to the temples for praying in the morning and found ventilators of the temples broken. The statue of Radha-Govinda was also found vandalised.
On information, police visited the spot, said Atul Chandra Roy.
Manoranjan Roy, general secretary of Sindurmati Temple Managing Committee, said a gang vandalised the temples at midnight.
A gang of criminals have been committing such crime in the area for the last one month, he said.
Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said they will arrest the culprits soon.
Earlier on August 11, a gang of miscreants vandalised Ram temple in the same area, said local Hindus, adding that the gang also vandalised statue of god Ram at the time.
Sindurmati pond is a historical place where Hindu devotees have been praying for the last 300 years. Every year a fair is held at the place where thousands of Hindu devotees from different parts of Bangladesh and India come to take bath in the pond water to be purified.
