Teacher held for molesting girl

Police arrested a teacher on charge of molesting a girl student in Gaibandha while similar allegation has been raised against another teacher in Noakhali.

Julfiqar Sarker Belgium, assistant teacher of Sahebganj Government Primary School in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha, allegedly attempted to rape a Class V female student on February 8 at his coaching centre at Shiyalgara in the upazila.

As the victim screamed, locals caught the teacher and handed him over to police, said guardians.

Locals including guardians of students yesterday formed a human chain at Katabari in the upazila and demanded exemplary punishment of the teacher.

A case was filed against him and he was sent to jail, said Afzal Hossain, OC of Gobindagnaj Police Station.

In Noakhali's Sonaimuri, two female students of Class IX at Birshrestha Ruhul Amin Academy filed a complaint of sexual harassment against its acting headmaster Shahid Ullah.

The teacher often uttered sexually provocative words in classroom, called the victims to his private tuition centre and touched them in indecent ways, alleged the victims in the complaint submitted to the academy's managing committee.

The managing committee released the teacher and formed a seven-member probe body for investigation.

Sonaimuri Police Station OC Abdus Samad said police asked the teacher to come to the police station for the sake of inquiry, but the teacher did not come.
