Stalking victim tries to kill self
A 13-year-old schoolgirl attempted to take her own life allegedly after facing repeated threats from her stalkers in Sunamganj's Dharmapasha upazila.
The fifth grader of a local government primary school is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.
She tried to take her life by taking poison on Friday night, said the victim's mother.
The mother filed a complaint with Dharmapasha Police Station against the stalkers on Saturday, said Ejajul Islam, officer-in-charge of the PS.
The victim's mother said Taposh Mia, 19, of Boulam village, and his friends Maruf Mia, 20, of Kholapara and Rahul Mia, 21, of Mahmudpur village used to stalk her daughter.
He also made objectionable proposals to her. On refusal, Taposh threatened to throw acid on her. Taposh also said if she informed anyone in her family about the matter, they will kill her 19-year-old brother. She was suffering from depression since the incident.
On Friday afternoon, when she was returning home from her school, Taposh and his gang on a motorcycle waylaid her and harassed her. Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. However, the stalkers managed to flee the scene.
After returning home, she fell sick after taking poison.
