Small ethnic community finally gets own graveyard

The district administration on Wednesday handed over a piece of land to members of small ethnic community Mushohar in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

The Mushohar's in Kalitala village had long been demanding land for a graveyard in the upazila where they would bury deceased members of the community.

The community had been suffering immensely without a graveyard and they had been making the demand since the independence of the country, said Dilajan Wrishi and Pinu Wrishi, two members of the community.

The land was allocated after ESDO, a non-governmental organisation, pursued the administration for about 11 years for the graveyard, they also said.

Sadar Upzila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, local public representatives and officials from upazila land office and ESDO were present on the occasion.
