Schoolboy murdered, accused arrested
A 12-year-old boy was beaten to death allegedly by a local youth over a trifling matter in Gafargaon upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased, Mohammad Alfaz, son of Ruhul Amin of Kharua Borail village, was a Class VI student at Kharua Borail High School.
Quoting locals, Officer in Charge (OC) of Gafargaon Police Station Abdul Ahad said the incident occurred when Alfaz was going to sell milk at Kharua Borail Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.
On the way, Rifat, 19, an HSC student, waylaid Alfaz and locked in an altercation with him over a trifling matter.
At one stage, Rifat, son of late Sirajul Islam of adjacent Chhoybaria village, beat the minor boy mercilessly with a bamboo stick, leaving him critically injured, said the OC.
Hearing screams, locals and family members rescued Alfaz and took him to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC said, adding that the boy sustained critical injuries in the head.
Soon after the incident, villagers caught Rifat from the locality and handed him over to police, who produced the arrestee before a court yesterday afternoon that sent him to jail.
Deceased's father Ruhul lodged a case with Gafargaon Police Station against Rifat yesterday.
