‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ in Chattogram

A suspected robber was killed in what is being said a gunfight in the coastal area of Banshkhali upazila, Chattogram early today.

The deceased is yet to be identified, around 35 years old, our local staff correspondent reports quoting Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

Tipped off, Rab-7 intercepted a robbery attempt in Chhoto Chonua area around 4:00am, said Maj Md Mehehi, deputy director of Rab-7.

“They were preparing to rob some boats. When they sensed our presence, they opened fire. Rab men also retaliated with fire,” he said.

After the gunfight, the bullet-hit body was found at the spot. The others fled. Seven firearms and 22 bullets were found at the spot.

They body was handed over to Banshkhali Police Station.

Two members of the Rab team also sustained minor injuries during the drive. They received first aid treatment, the officer added.
