Repair work of embankment damaged in Amphan begins
The repair work of the damaged part of Baleshwar river embankment in Sharankhola upazila of the district has begun. It was damaged by the cyclone Amphan last month.
The repair work of the damaged portion begun under the supervision of Bangladesh Army, said an official of Water Development Board in Bagerhat.
Md Nahiduzzaman Khan, executive engineer of Bagerhat Water Development Board, said on June 19, they started the repair work of the two-km-long damaged portion of the embankment stretching from Gabtala Ashar Alo Mosque to Bogi in the upazila.
They have also started to remove the saline water that entered the locality during the cyclone Amphan, he said.
The engineer hopes that the repair work of the embankment will be completed soon.
Local people are happy as the authorities concerned began the repair work of the important embankment.
The villagers hope that a sustainable embankment will be constructed there soon to save their crops in monsoon.
The executive engineer said they have already informed the higher authorities about construction of a sustainable embankment at the damaged portion.
