Rape of Fifth Grader: Accused madrasa super still at large

Although five days have already been passed since filling of the rape case, police are yet to arrest the accused madrasa principal for raping a fifth grader of his institution in Netrakona’s Kendua upazila nearly four months ago.

The accused, Maulana Abdul Halim Sagor, 40, superintendent of Ashraful Ulum Qawmi Madrasa at Char Amlitola village in Kendua, is a resident of adjacent Char Nilamborkhila village.

Since filing of the case by the victim’s father with Kendua Police Station on January 19, they have been conducting drives in different areas to arrest the accused madrasa superintendent, Officer in Charge of the police station Mohammad Rasheduzzaman said.

Quoting the case statement, the OC said Sagor raped the 12-year-old girl, a resident student of the madrasa, in the bathroom of the institution about four months ago.

After the heinous act, Sagor threatened the girl with dire consequences and told her not to disclose the matter to others.

When Sagor learnt about the girl’s pregnancy last week, he forced her to take herbal medicine at the madrasa premises on January 15.

After taking the medicine, the girl fell seriously ill due to bleeding profusely that eventually led to an abortion, the OC added.

Later, when the girl disclosed the matter to her parents, they met Sagor, who tried to settle the matter by offering money.

Meanwhile, following deterioration of her condition, the victim was admitted at Netrakona General Hospital on January 19.
