‘Punish FF Selim’s killers’
Freedom fighters (FFs) and local Awami League (AL) leaders in Ishwardi upazila yesterday staged a sit-in protesting the killing of fellow freedom fighter Mostafizur Rahman Selim.
They organised the programme at Ishwardi Mahbub Ahmed stage in the upazila in the morning.
The protestors also demanded to arrest the killers and mastermind behind the murder.
Selim, 66, was shot dead in front of his residence in Pakshey union on February 6 this year when he was returning home from a local bazar. Police later arrested two suspects in connection with the killing.
Speakers at the programme said FF Selim was always strong vocal against corruption and irregularities in his area.
They blamed Enamul Biswas, chairman of Pakshey Union Parishad (UP), for the killing.
Ishwardi Upazila Parishad Chairman Nuruzzaman Biswas, Mayor Abul Kalam Azad Mintu of Ishwardi municipality, upazila AL president Nayeb Ali Biswas, freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman Fantu and son of the deceased Tonmoy Rahman spoke.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station Md Bahauddin Faruki said a case was filed against unknown people.
Police, however, arrested the son and nephew of the UP chairman, said the OC.
