‘Punish attackers of teachers’
Students of two government primary schools boycotted their classes and jointly formed a human chain on Itbaria road in Kalapara upazila headquarters yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers of their two teachers.
Locals said during school hours, some Dulal Hawlader of Badurtali area in the upazila along with his men went to Badurtali Government Primary School premises and called assistant teacher Bacchu Hawlader, also the neighbour of Dulal, out of the school and abused him.
At one stage, they assaulted him. At the time, other teachers of the school tried to resist the attackers but in vain.
On information, Palash Mahmud, an assistant teacher of nearby Itbaria Government Primary School, came to the spot and tried to pacify the attackers but they also assaulted him.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Md Jahir Uddin, sub-inspector of Kalapara Police Station.
Palash is now undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Bacchu Hawlader said they attacked him without any reason.
Dulal said there was a longstanding conflict between him and Bacchu over a piece of land but he did not attack him on the school ground.
Md Rafiqul Islam, assistant upazila education officer, said on information, he rushed to the spot and took the victims from the spot.
After the incident, the two schools were kept closed for the day, he said.
The victims can file a case with local police station in this regard, said the education officer.
