Policemen among 30 injured
At least 30 people, including 10 policemen, were injured as two rival groups clashed over establishing supremacy at Puratan Bus Stand in Madaripur town early yesterday.
Police fired at least 35 rubber bullets to bring the situation under control and detained five people in connection with the clash.
Locals said Antor Howlader, 22, of Bahgerpara area and Rashadul Islam, 20, of Horikumaria area in the town locked in an altercation over entering the Cottage Industry and Joy Fair on Friday night.
As a sequel, their men clashed with lethal weapons early yesterday, leaving 30 people, including 10 policemen, injured, they said.
Of the injured, 28 were taken to Madaridpur General Hospital and two other seriously injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, they added.
“On information, police rushed to the spot and fired 35 rubber bullets and brought the situation under control. Five people were detained from the spot in connection with the clash," said Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Badrul Alam Mollah.
Policemen have been deployed in the area to avoid further clash, Badrul said
