Physician continues performing caesarean surgeries in Kushtia in spite of Covid-19 suspicion
A physician performed several caesarean surgeries at different clinics in Kushtia on Thursday -- a day after he gave samples for Covid-19 testing, keeping the mothers and newborns at risk of being infected with the coronavirus.
To complicate the issue further, the test result on the doctor's samples came back positive on Thursday night, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam.
The physician, an assistant professor of a medical college in Gopalganj, gave samples for coronavirus testing at Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia on Wednesday morning, said Anwarul.
But the physician completed at least 10-12 caesarean surgeries at different clinics in Daulatpur and Sadar upazilas of Kushtia on Thursday before the test result came back positive at 9:00pm on the day, said the civil surgeon.
The civil surgeon also said there is no doubt that the caesarean operations have put the mothers and newborns at risk of infection.
Although the physician works in Gopalganj, he comes to Daulatpur every week to perform operations at different hospitals, our correspondent reports quoting doctors and different hospitals.
Sayem Hossain, owner of a private clinic in Daulatpur upazila, said the surgeon completed two obstetric surgeries at his clinic twice on Thursday.
Liyakat Hossain, principal of Sheikh Saira Khatun Medical College in Gopalganj, said the surgeon was sent to quarantine after performing his duties from Saturday to Tuesday.
"I am not aware of what he did there (Kushtia)," he said.
Contacted, the physician said he was not suffering from any serious symptoms. He said he quarantined himself after the test results came back positive.
