The High Court today deferred till November 3 for passing an order on an appeal filed by Robi Axiata Ltd seeking an injunction on Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s (BTRC) move to realise Tk 867.23 crore from the telecom operator.

The HC bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khizir Hayat was scheduled to pass the order on the appeal today.

But the High Court bench today passed the deferment order as BTRC’s lawyer Barrister Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib sought an adjournment as a petition filed by the BTRC against Grameenphone (GP) is pending with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The Appellate Division is scheduled to hear and pass an order on October 31 on the BTRC’s petition against Grameenphone, he said.

Barrister Kazi Ershadul Alam appeared for Robi Axiata ltd.

The BTRC on July 31 last year issued a notice asking Robi Axiata to pay Tk 867.23cr as dues

Later on, Robi file the appeal with a lower court in Dhaka seeking an injunction on the realisation of the money by the BTRC but the court turned down the petition.

Robi in October this year moved the appeal to the High Court seeking an injunction on BTRC’s move to realise money from Robi.

On October 20, the High Court admitted the appeal for hearing. On October 22, the High Court fixed today for passing an ad interim on the appeal.
