Only one of 284 Patuakhali madrasas has Shaheed Minar
Only one out of 284 Patuakhali madrasas has a permanent Shaheed Miner on its premises to pay homage to the country's martyred Language Movement heroes during the Language Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21.
Although, a few institutions in the district observe the day by setting up temporary Shaheed Minar with banana trees, only one permanent structure is found on the premises of Dakkhin Muradia Mohila Fazil Madrasa in Dumki upazila.
Even the century-old Wayazabad Mostafavia Fazil Madrasa in Sadar upazila, which was established in 1911, has no Shaheed Minar to observe the International Mother Language Day.
Madrasa Principal ANM Bazlur Rahman said “We hold a doa mahfil on the day, but do not offer homage to the martyrs by placing wreath on Shaheed Minar.”
Kazi Shah Jalal, principal of Dakkhin Muradia Mohila Fazil Madrasa, said “We built the permanent Shaheed Minar this year with our own fund so that people can observe the day with proper honour and dignity.
Mentionable, Registrar of Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board Prof Mohammad Mojibur Rahman issued a notice on February 3, urging all the madrasas across the country to observe the Language Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day with great honour.
