One tonne motor parts seized
Benapole customs authority yesterday seized one tonne of motor parts from a truck containing adhesive imported from India.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said, acting on a tip off, the Investigation Research Management officials of customs seized the truck when it was entering Bangladesh.
The truck was carrying a consignment of adhesive imported from India by Apex Footwear Ltd.
He said one tonne of motor parts were hidden inside 10 tonnes of adhesive contained in 560 packages. The customs authorities seized the truck when it was entering Bangladesh, he said.
The consignment of adhesive, Double-B-23-B-6395, is worth $25,950.
The Indian exporter is Chandra Chemicals.
A departmental case has been filed in this regard.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized a truck carrying contraband goods worth Tk 75 lakh from Baropota area under Benapole Port Police Station yesterday.
Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer BGB 49 Battalion, said BGB men seized a truck with Indian sarees, banned medicines and firecrackers worth a total of Tk 75 lakh.
The smugglers managed to flee.
The seized goods were deposited with Benapole customs godown. A case was filed in this connection.
