One arrested over rape, another for attempt
Two people, including superintendent of a madrasa, were detained on Sunday in separate cases filed for rape and attempting to rape in Shariatpur and Thakurgaon.
Our Faridpur correspondent reported that a Shariatpur court yesterday sent a youth, arrested on Sunday in connection with a case for raping a young girl on Saturday, to jail.
The arrestee is Masud Bepari, 31, younger son of Janjira Municipality Chairman Yunus Bepari.
Earlier on Sunday, the victim, an intermediate second year student and an assistant nurse at a local clinic, filed a rape case with Janjira Police Station accusing Masud.
According to the case statement, Masud called the victim, one of his relatives, at his house when his wife was not present at home around 6:00pm on Saturday and he forcibly raped her.
After sometime, the victim managed to come out of Masud’s house and disclosed the matter to locals, who informed the police.
Being informed, police arrested Masud from his house around 2:30am on Sunday.
Sheikh Mostafa, resident medical officer at Shariatpur General Hospital, said they collected specimen and sent those to Dhaka for medical tests.
In Thakurgaon, police detained madrasa superintendent from Hossaingaon village in Ranishankoil upazila on Sunday in connection with a case for attempting to rape a teenage house help in April, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee, Azizur Rahman, son of late Fazar Ali of the village, is also superintendent of Banglagar Madrasa in the upazila.
Officer in Charge of Ranishankoil Police Station Abdul Mannan said they detained Azizur after mother of the 14-year-old victim filed a case with the police station on Sunday night.
According to the case statement, the teenage girl used to work as a house help at Azizur’s house for a few years.
On April 26, Azizur tried to rape her when the other members of his family went to visit a relative’s house.
