Once again rape attempt on running bus

Police arrested a bus driver on charge of attempting to rape a female garment worker in the vehicle on Saturia-Manikganj road at Dhulla under Saturia upazila in the district on Tuesday night.

The arrestee is Jamal Mia, 35, son of Mohammad Raiz Uddin of Baliati Charpara village in Saturia upazila.

The victim woman works at a garment factory in Bathuli area of Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka.

While returning home in Saturia on a bus transporting workers from the factory, she faced the brutality when the vehicle reached Dhulla area of Saturia-Manikganj road at around 11:00pm.

“After the end of the work at the factory on Tuesday night, on their way to home by the bus, other workers were dropped at Dhulla. Getting me alone in the bus, driver Jamal tried to rape me after switching off the lights of the vehicle.

“I was released after agreeing to the driver's condition that I would not tell anyone about the rape attempt. I got down from the bus in Saturia Bazar Bridge area and told the incident to my father who was waiting there to take me home,” she said.

After getting complaint, police arrested the accused driver Jamal from Saturia Bazar the same night, said Aminul Islam, officer in charge of Saturia Police Station.

The garment worker filed a case against the bus driver with the police station yesterday  for attempting to rape her, he said.
