Number of PEC examinees reduced
Compared to the previous years the district has seen a drastic fall in number of examinees in Primary Education Completion (PEC) tests for fifth graders this year which began across the country yesterday.
According to District Primary Education Office (DPEO) in Pirojpur as many as 17,884 students, 7840 male and 10044 female, in seven upazilas of the district are scheduled to take the ongoing PEC test this year whereas 19,599 examinees, 8925 male and 10674 female appeared last year.
Presence of female students, compared to male, has been increasing in almost all the primary schools of the district for the last couple of years, DPEO sources said.
In terms of Ebtedayee examinations for madrasa students, a total of 3,988 examinees, 2326 male and 1662 female, are scheduled take the equivalent examination this year which was 3,781, 2182 male and 1599 female, last year.
Meanwhile, a total of 445 PEC students and 569 Ebtedayee students were absent on the first day of the examinations yesterday, Pirojpur DPEO Mohammad Fozleh Rahman said.
