Nodi murder accused Abul Hossain sued for illegal wealth
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Pabna filed a case on Tuesday against Abul Hossain, owner of Indigenous Drug Lab (IDRUL) and Shimla Diagnostic Centre, for possessing properties worth over Tk 40 crore without known source of income.
The accused industrialist has been in jail since August 29 on charge of his involvement in killing journalist Suborna Nodi, also his former daughter-in-law.
“Abul Hossain was a watch mechanic in the '90s, and now he has become one of the leading businessmen in Pabna, running three companies and having properties worth Tk 40.66 crore. He could not show the documents for the huge amount he earned since 1997,” said Abu Bakar Siddique, deputy director (DD) of ACC, Pabna.
As Abul did not submit his wealth statement, ACC Pabna started inquiry and found that he bought property worth Tk 40 crore 66 lakh 14 thousand through 19 deeds since 1997. He has a loan from the Al Arafah Islami Bank of Tk 29 crore, 13 lakh, 60 thousand and 350. He has net income of Tk 11 crore 52 lakh, 53 thousand and 711, but, according to his income tax report from 1989-90 to 2015-16 fiscal year, his income was Tk 4 crore 69 lakh 24 thousand and 956. He could not show the real source of the rest of the amount.
“ACC had issued a notice to Abul to submit his wealth statement within August 8, but he failed. As the ACC investigation found that he has illegal property worth a huge amount of money without any known source of income, Pabna ACC filed a case against him with Pabna Police Station,” said DD of ACC Pabna.
