Natore headmaster cuts 22 students’ hair, sparking protests

The headmaster of Joari High School in Natore’s Baraigram upazila allegedly cut the hair of 22 students today, leading to angry guardians, locals and the students confining him to the school for about four hours.
Later, a police team escorted the headteacher out of the school, while the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) went to the spot and assured the crowd of swift action and formation of an inquiry committee, reports our Natore correspondent.
A three-member inquiry committee headed by Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abdul Rauf was formed later on.
Locals said the headteacher cut the hair of 22 students of different classes randomly and made them leave the school premises.
Later, the students gathered together and started a procession. At this time, locals, including parents of the students, came and joined them.
Police were deployed at the scene to bring the situation under control before the arrival of UNO Anwar Parvez.
Parvez said the inquiry committee had been asked to submit an investigation report within three days.
After receiving the report, the necessary steps will be taken.
