Murder over land dispute in Brahmanbaria: 5 get life term
A court in Brahmanbaria has sentenced five accused to life term imprisonment in a case filed in connection with the murder of a fruit seller over land dispute in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila in 2014.
Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Safiul Azam handed down the verdict today, reports our correspondent quoting Court police Inspector Kazi Didar Ahmed.
The life term accused are, Shafiqur Rahman Khandaker alias Shafi, Md Morshed Khandaker, Md Shahed Alam Khandaker, Abdul Hai and Mubarak, all residents of Syedtola Fakirpara village.
Among them, Morshed and Mubarak are on the run.
Three other people Helim Mia, Abul Badshah and Mamun Mia were given one-year imprisonment. Of them, Abul Badshah is on the run.
According to the case statement, on the night of August 13, 2014, Shawkat Ali, resident of Jahangirpara village was murdered while returning home after closing his fruit shop in Sarail Sadar. His brother Abdul Baten filed a murder case with Sarail Police Station accusing nine people.
