Police recovered the body of a farmer from a village in Sonatal upazila of Bogura today 11 months after he allegedly went missing.
The deceased, Rafiqul Islam (47) of the Ranirpara village in Sonatal upazila, went missing on June 14 last year, said Khudrat-E-Khuda Shuvo, assistant superintendent (Shibganj-Sonatal circle) of Bogura police.
Police recovered the decomposed body from a paddy field in the Ranirpara village around 1:30pm and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, said the ASP.
Rafiqul's elder brother filed a missing dairy with the Sonatal police station 15 days after he went missing, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting police.
Police arrested Rafiqul's wife Rehena Khatun (37), their son Jasim Uddin (18), Rehena's nephew Shakil (21) and a man Mohidul Islam (47) this morning.
On the basis of their statements, police recovered the body, police said.
"A few days, ago, we heard that Rehana Khatun had an affair with Mohidul. Therefore, we arrested Mohidul this morning.
"During interrogation, he disclosed that they had all conspired to kill Rafiqul Islam. Therefore, we also detained Rehena, Jasim and Shakil," said ASP Shuvo.
During the interrogation, they all admitted their involvement in the murder, the police official said.
Police also claimed that Mohidul and Rehena wanted to get married so they killed Rafiqul.
When asked about the involvement of his own son and Rehena's nephew Shakil, ASP Shuvo claimed, Rehena convinced Rafiqul's son as his father would beat him up over studies.
Rehena also paid her nephew to help with the murder, the ASP said.
Since the case has now turned from a missing person to a murder, the detainees will be sent to court, he said.
