Mentally challenged woman 'gang-raped'

Youth held for sexually harassing woman tea worker

A mentally challenged woman was allegedly gang-raped near Shamshernagar Station area in Kamalganj upazila of the district on Friday.

On secret information, a team of police, led by In-Charge of Shamshernagar Police Outpost Sub Inspector (SI) Arup Kumar Chowdhury, rescued the 30-year-old woman from the platform of Shamshernagar Station and admitted her to Kamalganj Health Complex for medical test on Friday morning.

The law enforcers the same afternoon detained two night guards of the station for their alleged involvement with the incident.

The arrestees are Tazmul Ali, 45, and Monir Mia, 35, SI Arup said.

Meanwhile, police the same day arrested an employee of a hospital in connection with a written complaint filed for sexually harassing a female tea worker for two consecutive days last week.

The arrestee, Faruk Hosain, 35, is a lab assistant at Camellia Duncan Foundation Hospital in Shamshernagar area.

According to the complaint, Faruk sexually harassed the 20-year-old victim when she went to the hospital for a blood test on March 15 and she somehow managed to flee the scene without performing the test.

The next day, when the woman went to the hospital for her undone blood test Faruk again tried to repeat the same offence.

Finding no other way, the victim disclosed the matter to her husband, who lodged a written complaint with Shamshernagar Police outpost against Faruk on Thursday.

The arrestee was produced before a Moulvibazar court that sent him to jail, SI Arup said.
