UP member, 5 others sued
Two named people, including a local union parishad (UP) member, and four to five unnamed others were sued on Tuesday for raping a schoolgirl in Rajapur upazila on Sunday and then holding her hostage for ransom.
Grandfather of the 14-year-old victim filed the case with Rajapur Police Station on Tuesday night accusing local UP member Babul Talukder and prime accused Helal Talukder, 28, son of Jahangir Talukder of Charakhali village and four to five other unnamed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajapur Police Station Shamsul Arefin said the motherless girl, a Class IX student, was allegedly abducted when she was returning home with her uncle on Sunday afternoon.
Suspect Helal Talukder, 28, and his cohorts abducted her, the victim said, adding that Helal had been stalking her for long.
Culprit Helal later took her to an undisclosed location and raped her there.
He then confined her to a room at Babul's house and demanded Tk 5,000 as ransom from her grandparents otherwise he threatened to kill her, the victim said.
Later, her grandfather informed police of the matter who rescued her the same night when Helal's cohort Babul was allegedly attempting to rape her.
Helal is accused in a number of cases, including one for robbery, the OC said.
