Measles-Rubella campaign to begin from March 18
The government will start a 25-day Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign throughout the country on March 18.
The vaccination programme will continue till April 11.
While addressing a press briefing at the ministry conference room today, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malique said, "Around 3.40 crore children aged between nine months and 10 years will come under the vaccinations programme throughout the country."
This programme will be continued in two phases.
Students up to grade-IV or equivalent classes of around 1.73 lakh schools will be brought under the campaign from March 18 to March 24. The remaining children will get this vaccine through around 2.44 lakh permanent and makeshift vaccination centres, said the health minister.
All children of the country will come under the programme, he said.
The number of infected persons of Measles-Rubella was 1.6 in every 10 lakh people while it rose to 27.1 in 2019, he added.
German Measles, also known as Rubella, is a viral infection that causes a red rash on the body. Aside from the rash, people with German Measles usually have a fever and swollen lymph nodes. The infection can spread from person to person through contact with droplets from an infected person's sneeze or cough.
