Man killed by Rab in Ashulia ‘gunfight’
A 35-year-old man was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, today.
Law enforcers claimed that the deceased Raihan Sarkar, hailing from Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur, had been running a drug racket in the area, our Savar correspondent reports quoting Mohammed Mohiuddin Faruque, company commander of Rab-2.
Acting on a tip-off that Raihan was staying at a house in Kabirpur area with a consignment of drug, a Rab team carried out an operation there around 9:30am, Mohiuddin Faruque, also a superintendent of police, said.
Sensing presence of the law men, around three rounds of bullets were fired at the Rab forces from inside the house, forcing them to fire back, the Rab official said.
Raihan was killed in the gunfight and two Rab members --Nachhir and Monir–also sustained injuries at that time, according to Faruque.
A foreign-made pistol, two rounds of bullets and 10,000 yaba tablets were recovered from the spot, the Rab official claimed, adding that Raihan was accused in at least 11 cases including murder.
The correspondent could not verify the claims of the cases.
