Man killed, 2 easy-bikes looted
Unidentified criminals killed an elderly man and took away two battery-run auto-rickshaws, kept for charging at the former's shop, in Birampur upazila early yesterday.
The deceased is Nasir Uddin, 70, son of late Basir Uddin of Hariharpur village in the upazila.
Police said a number of local drivers recharge their auto-rickshaws at Nasir's shop.
Nasir went to sleep on Wednesday night, keeping several vehicles for recharging.
At around 2:30am, a group of some unidentified criminals entered Nasir's shop forcibly and tied him with rope.
As Nasir started screaming, they thrashed his head with a concrete wall and took away two auto-rickshaws, leaving him critically injured.
Later, hearing Nasir's groaning, family members and locals rescued him and admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
He died at the hospital while undergoing treatment there yesterday morning.
Officer in Charge of Birampur Police Station Mohammad Moniruzzaman said a case has been filed in this regard and they were conducting drives to arrest the culprits.
