Man held for ‘spreading rumour’ over Bhola incident

A man was arrested from Laldighi area of Chattogram city on charge of spreading rumours through a Facebook post over Sunday’s clash in Bhola.

Police identified the arrestee as Md Robiul Alam,28, son of Ahmed Hossen from Puichari in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram district, said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.

He was arrested from port city’s Laldighi area around 11:30pm last night using “digital technology”, said the OC.

OC Mohsin said Robiul spread propaganda through giving a status from his Facebook account. He used the photos of Chattogram Metropolitan Commissioner (CMP) Mahbubor Rahman and claimed that fire was shot on Muslim Tawhidi Janata members upon his instruction.

He completed his study till class eight from a Qawmi madrasha, added the OC.

A case was filed against him with Kotwali Police Station under Digital Security Act.
