A 55-year-old man with coronavirus-like symptoms died at the isolation ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital this morning.
"The man, hailing from Sureshwar village of Nariaupazila, was admitted at the isolation ward of the hospital with fever, cough and breathing problems on May 24," Dr Munir Ahmed Khan, superintendent of the hospital, told The Daily Star.
"The patient died around 8:30am today," he said.
"Yesterday, we collected his sample, which was sent to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) today for Covid-19 test," Dr Munir added.
"The man returned to his village in Naria from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area on May 19. After four days, he went to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital seeking treatment," said Dr Md Safikul Islam, Nariaupazila health and family planning officer.
The body was buried by the Islamic Foundation following the guidelines set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the official added.
