Man arrested for ‘killing’ wife
A man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife yesterday morning in Basail upazila.
Shahinur Rahman, 39, of Sthalballa village in Kashil union, was on the run since he left his critically injured wife, Swapna Akter, 28, at Tangail General Hospital.
Shahinur and Swapna -- daughter of Abdul Mannan of Brammanparil village in Basail municipality, has two sons.
Swapna’s father filed a murder case against Shahinur and his parents -- Abdus Samad and Tara Banu -- and her autopsy was conducted at morgue of the hospital, said SM Tuhin Ali, officer-in-charge of Basail Police Station.
Her father said ever since marrying her daughter 12 years ago, Shahinur had been torturing Swapna and pressurising her to bring him money from her parents.
During an altercation yesterday morning, he injured Swapna critically with a sharp weapon. Shahinur and his parents then went into hiding after dropping her off at the hospital. Swapna later succumbed to her injuries, he alleged.
