Lightning kills 7 in Habiganj, Bogura
Seven people, including three children, were killed and four others injured in separate lightning strikes in Habiganj and Bogura districts today.
In Habiganj, Lilu Mia, 14, son of Samar Ali of Noangar village in Ajmeriganj upazila of the district, was killed in the lightning strike when he was fishing near his house this morning, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Naima Khandaker UNO of the upazila.
The lightning also struck Nasr Uddin, 13, son of Abdus Salam of Manika village, and Orkaid Mia, 11, son of Darach Mia of Noah village in Bahubal upazila, who were also fishing nearby, UNO Snigdha Talukder, of the upazila said. They were killed on the spot.
Osman Ali, 6, son of Barik Ali of the same upazilas, was injured at the same place during the lightning and is now undergoing treatment at Bahubal Upazila Health Complex, the UNO said.
In Bogura, Nurul Islam, 40, of Harigari village under Shajahanpur upazila, was killed by lightning while working in a paddy field this afternoon, our local correspondent reports quoting
Shazedur Rahman Shahin, chairman of Kharna union parishad of the upazila.
Another farmer Mukhlesur Rahman, 58, of Sabrul village under the same upazila of the district sustained injuries in a similar incident. He was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Three other farmers sustained injuries in the lightning and one of them is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
One Hasan Ali, of Sabrul village, sustained injures said Zia Latiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kahaloo Police Station.
Another Salam Sarkar, 55, of Gopalnagar village under Dhunat upazila was killed by lightning while working in his vegetable field, Kripa Sindhu Bala, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Staion said.
Lebu Mondol, 35, of Kuripara village under Sariakandi upazila of the district was also killed by a lightning strike this afternoon, Al- Amin, officer-in-charge of the Sariakandi Police Station said.
