At least five people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Lalmonirhat and Panchagarh yesterday.
Our Lalmonirhat correspondent reported that, at least four people were killed and two others sustained injuries in separate lightning strikes in Patgram and Hatibandha upazilas yesterday.
Police said a streak of thunderbolt hit Jahidul Islam, 28, Rakib Hasan, 23, Bachcha Mia, 28, and Shafiqul Islam, 32, while they were fishing in Sakoua river at Dahagram village in Patgram upazila yesterday noon, leaving Jahidul and Rakib dead on the spot.
They all hail from Islampur village in the upazila.
Injured Bachcha and Shafiqul are now undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Meanwhile, Mantu Mia, 41, son of late Ramzan Ali, and Atiar Rahman, son of late Abdul Hamid, were killed instantly on the spot when a thunderbolt struck them while they were fishing in Kalibari Beel in Hatibandha upazila.
The deceased were resident of Purba Bejgram village in the upazila.
Away in Panchagarh, a farmer was killed in lightning strike at Kaharpara village in Boda upazila yesterday, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Mahesh Chandra Dev, 55, son 0f Mahendranath Dev, of the village.
Officer in Charge of Boda Police Station Abu Haydar Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman said a thunderbolt hit Mahesh around 10:30am while he was ploughing his filed, leaving him dead on the spot.
