Lightning kills 3 including father, son in Panchagarh

Three people, including a man and his son, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Panchagarh this afternoon.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Ali (55) and his son Anisur Rahman (35) of Khuniagach village in Tentulia upazila, and Ripon Islam (16), son of Mansur Alam of Barashashi village in Boda upazila of the district, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports quoting police. 

Johurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Police Station, said Mohammad Ali and his son Anisur sustained injuries after a thunderbolt hit them while harvesting Boro paddy in their field around 2:00pm.

The injured were taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead, added the OC.

In another incident, Ripon, a class 10 student of a local madrasa, was injured by a lightning strike around 2:30pm while he was bringing their ducks home from a pond during rain.

Family members took him to Debganj Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared him dead, said Abu Haider M Ashrafuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Boda Police Station.
