Life term for killing wife
A court here yesterday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing his wife in 2013.
The convict, Golap Hasda, 39, son of Parameshwar Hasda, is a resident of Shaltala village in Rajshahi’s Tanore upazila.
Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali pronounced the verdict in his absentia in the afternoon.
The court also fined Golap Tk 1 lakh. In default, he is to suffer one year more in prison.
According to the case statement, after marrying Sabina Soren a few years back, Golap started living beside his in-laws’ house at Khitka village in Chapainawabganj’s Nachole upazila.
On August 4, 2013, Golap locked in a quarrel with Sabina at their house over a family feud.
At one stage of altercation, Golap hit his wife with a spade, leaving her seriously injured.
Sabina later succumbed to her injuries on way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital the same day.
Meanwhile, following a case filed by Sabina’s brother Asin Soren with Nachole Police Station, law enforcers arrested Golap on August 5, but he went into hiding after getting bail from the court.
